Peel And Stick Your Way To A Beautiful Floor
Those who would like to install their own vinyl flooring would do well to look into self adhesive vinyl tile. This type of flooring is available from a wide variety of companies, including Tarkett and Mannington. It is very easy to install since it consists of 12" by 12" tiles that just require you to peel and stick in order to install them.
The first thing you need to do if you are going to install self adhesive vinyl tile is decide which type of tile you would like, and how much of it you are going to need. There are a lot of different options out there. For really high traffic areas you might want to consider getting commercial grade tiles. If you are on a tight budget you can see if there are any stores selling discontinued styles in large enough quantities for your project. Measure your floor carefully so you can calculate the right amount of tiles, and get some extra in case you make a mistake and cut a tile incorrectly and for any later repairs that might become necessary.
Once you have your self adhesive vinyl tile, you will need to make sure that the floor you are attaching the tile to is very smooth and very clean. Any bumps will show through the tile, and dust and dirt will make it so that the adhesive will not work as well. If the floor is not in good condition you might want to add a plywood underlayment to get a better surface for sticking the tile onto.
After your floor is prepared, it is a good idea to measure to find the center of the floor. Divide the floor into quadrants and start from the center, completing one quadrant at a time until you get near the edge where a full tile probably will not fit. Save the edges for the end. Once you have all the quadrants mostly filled with full tiles, you will need to carefully measure how much tile you will need to fill the remaining spaces and cut the tile to fit. Be sure to make the pieces large enough for a tight fit. That is all there is to it.
